ASUS rolls out an AOSP-based Android 10 beta for the ZenFone Max M2

Following the rollout of an AOSP-based Android 10 beta for the ASUS ZenFone 5, ZenFone Max M1, ZenFone Lite, and ZenFone Live L1/L2, the company is now rolling out a similar beta build for the ZenFone Max M2. The budget-friendly device from late 2018 initially rolled out with a near-stock build of Android 8.1 Oreo and back in April last year, the device was upgraded to Android 9 Pie. And the new AOSP-based beta release, which goes by the software version 17.2018.2002.29, finally upgrades the device to Android 10.

According to the changelog posted by the company over on the ZenTalk forums, the beta update not only brings all the new features introduced in Android 10 but also brings a unified preview interface for video and photo, along with added support for CIF and QVGA format for the rear camera and Android security patches for February 2020. While ASUS hasn’t explicitly listed all the new features packed in the latest beta release, ZenFone Max M2 users can look forward to enjoying all the standard Android 10 features like the system-wide dark mode, new navigation gestures, improved Digital Wellbeing tools with new parental controls and much more.

In case you’re interested in trying out Android 10 on your ZenFone Max M2, you can head over to ASUS’s firmware page from the link below and download the zip package for the beta update. Do note that installing the beta software will completely wipe your user data so make sure to take a backup beforehand. It’s also worth mentioning that the beta release isn’t available for the Japan SKU of the device. As of now, ASUS hasn’t released any details regarding the stable release, but we will update this post as soon as we learn more from the company.
