Xiaomi’s new Redmi Band features a 1.08″ color display and built-in charging plug

When it comes to affordable fitness bands, Xiaomi’s Mi Band lineup is often regarded as the best in the market. The latest release in the series — the Mi Band 4 — packed in a great selection of features, including continuous heart rate monitoring, at a very affordable price and it was quite well received. Banking on its popularity, Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi has now also launched an entry-level fitness band, called the Redmi Band, at a recent Mi Home event in China.

Unlike the Mi band lineup, the new Redmi Band features a completely new design with a square dial that houses a 1.08-inch color display and a single capacitive button underneath. Priced at CNY 99 (~$14), the entry-level fitness band offers features like heart rate monitoring, multiple sports modes for activity tracking, a sleep monitor, and a sedentary reminder, while boasting of a 14-day battery life on a single charge.

Being a budget-friendly fitness band, it skips on some of the more “premium” features found on the Mi Band lineup, like NFC for contactless payments, but it does offer a solution to the annoying charging situation associated with previous fitness bands from the company. Instead of a separate charging dock, the Redmi Band packs in a built-in USB plug for charging, much like the one found on the recently launched Realme Band, which is definitely a welcome addition.

In terms of customizations, the Redmi Band offers 70 official watch faces and it will be available in four wrist band color options, including black, blue, red and olive. Redmi is currently crowdfunding the new fitness band in its home country at a promotional price of CNY 95 (~$13.40) and it will be available for purchase starting from April 9th via Xiaomi Mall. As of now, the company has released no information regarding an international launch.
